Dear Nurture Africa supporters.

As you may have seen in the media, bilateral funding to the government of Uganda has been withheld pending resolution of the financial irregularities. Bilateral funding means funding from one government to another.

This will in no way affect any donations you may wish to make to Nurture Africa directly. Nurture Africa has complete authority of what to do with the donations received. In 2013 94% of all donations are spent on overseas development, 5% on administration costs and 1% on governance.

It will also not affect the direct funding provided by Irish Aid to Nurture Africa. Irish Aid values the excellent work that the NGO community undertakes and there are no plans at the moment to withhold funding from the NGOs currently working in Uganda.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact Nurture Africa @ info@nurtureafrica.ie or at 01-5424177

Yours sincerely,
Ian Carter
Chairman

CHILDREN WHO were destined to die have been given a lifeline thanks to the efforts of an Irish overseas development agency which has been helping impoverished families in Uganda to overcome life-threatening illness.

An estimated 20,000 children will receive life-saving treatment at a new Nurture Africa specialist HIV paediatric clinic near Kampala in Uganda.

The clinic incorporates a primary healthcare facility and its patients will be from among the most vulnerable in Ugandan society, according to Brian Iredale, a former nurse from Dublin and founder of the agency.

The Nurture Africa Medical Centre is now operational. Currently we are providing specialist HIV medication to 135 HIV infected children and primary health care to 210 orphans and vulnerable children per month. These numbers are soon to increase as we overcome the challenges of opening such a centre, for example, intermittent power supply causing challenges to our digital patient record system.

The Health Centre was opened on October 21st by the Commissioner for Child Health, Dr. Jessica Nsuigura, alongside Irish Ambassador Anne Webster.
