Applications for our summer 2020 Volunteer Programme are now open.
Programme Information
Applying for the Nurture Africa Volunteer Programme provides you with the unique opportunity to increase your awareness and understanding of international development whilst using your skills to support our ongoing work in Uganda. Commencing with 2 programme days in Dublin, you will then travel to Nurture Africa headquarters in Nansana, where you will be immersed in day-to-day life for the duration of your 3 week placement in this bustling and very welcoming community.
To Apply:
1. Submit a completed application form
2. Complete an informal interview process
3. Commit to participating in two pre-placement programme days prior to your placement in Uganda
4. Commit to attending a debriefing and reunion workshop approximately 4 weeks after you return home from your placement.

Placement 1: 5th - 26th June (student only placement)
Placement 2: 26th June - 17th July (students & professionals)
Placement 3: 17th July - 7th August (students & professionals)
Teaching Programme
Placement Information
Teaching placements are ONLY available to qualified and student teachers in 2nd year as a minimum. Student teachers applying for placement 1 must take note that classroom activities will be led by a Ugandan teacher. Students applying for placements 2 or 3 will be accompanied by a qualified Irish teacher for placement activities.
Activities
You will be placed alongside a team of fellow volunteers in one of 7 Nurture Africa partner schools. Activities will be classroom based, working with Ugandan teachers and students. Teaching workshops will allow you to learn about the Ugandan education system, share your ideas and methodologies and practice these within the classroom with Ugandan teachers.

Medical Programme
Placement Information
Medical placements are available to qualified and student applicants, in 2nd year as a minimum, studying in a relevant medical field.
Activities
Your volunteer activities will focus on both health centre and community healthcare operations. Alongside your volunteer team and staff from the Nurture Africa health Centre, you will work within Nurture Africa's annual work plan and take part in timetabled activities such as voluntary counselling and testing for HIV, primary healthcare community home visits and community healthcare workshops with primary and secondary school children.

General Skills Programme
Placement Information
The General Skills Programme is open to anyone over the age of 18 regardless of professional or academic background. You will be supporting various Nurture Africa projects which supplement our strong health and education focus.
Activities
Activities during this placement will be predominantly based within Nurture Africa's partners schools and at Nurture Africa headquarters. Training material and resources will be provided to ensure that you are prepared for your role. The General Skills timetable is varied with activities changing from morning to afternoon which will enable you to support our work across a range of projects
