This October, do something different
- Do you have 1 or 2 weeks to spare in October 2012?
- Are you a nurse or somebody with general skills?
- Would you like to build a house or library, work in a clinic, a children’s library or in the community?
- Would you like to gain an authentic experience of a different culture?
- Would you like to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children?
Are you enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible? If so, we want you to travel to Uganda with us in October 2012 to work on our 1 and 2-week placements.
Nurture Africa is seeking volunteers to help us achieve our mission: “to provide healthcare and education for orphans and children who are vulnerable as a consequence of HIV/AIDS in Uganda. Through sustainable projects, we endeavour to empower people to work their way out of the cycle of poverty they have been born into.”
Volunteering is an opportunity to develop your personal qualities and professional skills, by overcoming challenges, as well as embracing the high points of the experience. We are looking for people who are eager to engage with Ugandan culture and share a wealth of experiences with the local people we serve and work alongside.
Nurture Africa volunteers can expect to acquire a new perspective on the world…. We know no one can change the world in 2 weeks but your contribution can make a significant impact in some of Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.
Who can volunteer?
Please note that you must be at least 20 years old to volunteer with Nurture Africa.
- Volunteer placements are allocated subject to the suitability of the applicant.
- You must submit an application form and be available for interview.
- All applicants must be willing to complete a Garda Vetting form.
- You must be available to attend all pre-trip induction and training sessions and a reunion workshop after your return home.
Qualities we are looking for in volunteers
- Great interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Common sense, resourcefulness and a mature attitude.
- Flexibility and a willingness to adapt to unfamiliar situations.
- A strong sense of empathy.
What’s included?
During the placements in Uganda, volunteers are provided with secure accommodation plus three meals a day. Nurture Africa’s dedicated Volunteer Coordinators will always be on hand for friendly advice and support.
Nurture Africa subsidises your trip in Uganda. All volunteers will be required to pay €60 (1 week placement), and €120 (2 week Placement). For this, we provide airport transfers, secure accommodation including bed and full board, a mosquito net, water, electricity, local transport and private health insurance. The cost of living in Uganda is low, so your trip should be very cheap once you have arrived in the country.
Safaris & Excursions (2 week placement only)
Uganda is a visually stunning country – Winston Churchill called it “The Pearl of Africa” – so you can use your free time to explore its beauty and natural wonders. Weekend options include going on a game-park safari, trekking to encounter Uganda’s rare and endangered mountain gorillas or white-water rafting on the River Nile. (Please note that such excursions are run by private tour operators and prices are likely to range from approx €100-€900.)
