If you answered ‘YES’ to these questions, read on to find out why a Nurture Africa volunteer placement could be for you! Short-term volunteering is a unique opportunity to travel and experience a new culture whilst dedicating your time to worthwhile community development projects.

 

Why Volunteer with Nurture Africa?

 

  • Our student placement offers a unique opportunity to volunteer in Uganda and

      experience development in action. You will have the chance to contribute

      your time and energy across a range of projects in which Nurture Africa are involved. 

 

  • Placements are coordinated by our Irish volunteer coordinators and you will work side by

      side with your volunteer team and Ugandan staff in the delivery of our services,

      all the while working towards our goal of helping the most vulnerable children in Uganda

      to lead productive lives and become positive influences on society.

 

  • During your time off you can explore some of the continents most beautiful landscapes

      teeming with exotic wildlife, and see for yourself why Winston Churchill dubbed

      Uganda as the "Pearl of Africa".

 

Placement Information

 

Who:

We provide placements for 3rd level students from all academic backgrounds.

 

  • Teachers - This placement is open to Primary & Secondary school teaching students only.

 

  • Medical - This placement is open to  students of nursing and other medical relevant 

medical professions.

 

  • General Skills - Our General Skills placement is open to students from all academic backgrounds.

If you feel that your background can be utilised for the benefit of your placement and the host community

in Uganda, please do let us know and we can discuss a tailored placement with you,

subject to its suitability to our work in Uganda.

 

 

When:

 

3 week placement options

 

  • 8th - 29th June (Student specific placement)

  • 29th June - 20th July

  • 20th July - 10th August

 

 

5 week option

 

 

  • 29th June - 3rd August

 

 

 

 

Where:

Nansana, Wakiso District, Uganda 

Nansana is located 6 miles northwest of Uganda’s capital city Kampala along the Kampala – Hoima Road.

 

 

 

What we provide

We provide specialised placements for student Nurses, Teachers and General Skills placements

(any academic background). Our placements have a structured timetable with a broad variety

of volunteering acivities and free time for you to rest.

 

 

Application Process and Requirements

Volunteer placements are allocated subject to the suitability of the applicant.

You must:

  • Submit an application form (available HERE)

  • Undergo an interview process.

  • Be willing to completed a Garda Vetting process.

  • Commit to attending ALL compulsory pre-departure training sessions. 

  • Sign a Volunteer Agreement and Code of Conduct.

  • We strongly advise attendance at debrifing and reunion workshop approximately 4 weeks after you return home from your placement.

  • Obtain all required travels insurances, travel vaccinations and anti-malaria drugs before departure.

It is not possible to ‘change the world’ in just a few weeks, so it is important to have realistic expectations about the scope of short-term volunteering. This is an opportunity to learn about the challenges of international development and to better understand the ways in which we are all connected. We encourage volunteers to portray personal experiences and learning to family, friends and the wider Irish public on their return. Come with an open mind, a humble heart and an adventurous spirit and you will gain a new perspective on the world. By contributing to Nurture Africa projects, you can help us make a positive difference for people in some of Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.
